Being a teenager

You wake up from childhood to discover there is a big bad world out there full of fun and frolics. You have something to spend your pocket money instead of a bag of two thousand penny sweets. You can buy coffee and be high not just on caffeine but on your own maturity as well. You can travel by yourself without your parents having to drop you. You can hang around town without an escort and meet up with all your friends. You buy your own clothes and develop tastes in music. You cry over boys who have mistreated you and smile over the ones you have, and lust over the ones you have not. You feel like there is something out there you have yet to discover and the world is your oyster.
Sure, this life comes with a lot more problems than when you were younger. You have something to cry over, your own mistakes to make, pressure to do well and make something of yourself as well as to be liked. You have to deal with growing up. It’s a tough job too. Things were simpler when you played with Barbies. Things were more magical lie Christmas or even glow in the dark stars. You could play on a climbing frame all day. It was easier.
Still, being a teenager is better simply because everything isn’t easy. It’s a challenge. It’s freedom.
